| Support Doubles are a useful tool for clarifying openers hand
when the
opponents interfere with your auction. A Support Double is a double
made by
the opening bidder when responder bids a suit and the opponents
interfere with
a simple overcall.
Examples of Support Doubles This double shows exactly 3-card support for partners suit. It
is not for
penalty! This double tells partner that you have 3-card support for him. If you have 4-card support for partner's suit you will raise directly. If you do not have support then you will pass or bid notrump. Partner will have another chance to bid if they have more to say. Also, if you want to make a penalty double of the opponents (which you don't often want to do at such a low level) you must pass and hope that partner will reopen with a double. |
